Combined transport remains in the focus of ÖBB

ÖBB’s CEO Christian Kern: “RCA will continue to develop intermodal transport in a sustainable and profitable way“
 
On the occasion of the CombiNet-conference 2012 in Vienna Christian Kern, CEO ÖBB Holding AG, plead for sustainable and profitable development of combined road/rail transport. “We want to increase our commitment to this market segment step-by-step together with our customers“, the manager explained in his speech.
 
In addition Christian Kern announced future investments into maintenance and expansion of intermodal infrastructure in Austria. The program ÖBB Infrastruktur GmbH set up therefore includes the expansion of the cargo terminal in Wolfurt, an expansion project in Ludesch with regard to the large-scale shipper Red Bull, as well as projects in Wörgl and Wels. The ÖBB head referred to the planned cargo terminal in Vienna-Inzersdorf as an integrated part of the expansion and modernisation program for intermodal transport throughout Austria. However, Christian Kern said in his speech that the total closure of the NINA national network was out of the question. Hardship cases such as the closure of companies as a consequence of thinning out the offer of control stations in Austria shall be avoided at all possible means.
