Con-way Freight expands in San Antonio

Con-way Freight is investing US$10 million in a new freight service centre in San Antonio that will serve as the local hub for daily freight pick-up and deliveries as well as nightly re-ship operations between San Antonio and one-, two- and three-day service points in the company’s nationwide network.

Construction has begun on the new 105-door, 41,500 sq.ft facility, which will also serve as a gateway for goods moving to and from Mexico.

The new facility will replace an existing 48-door service centre from which Con-way has operated for more than twenty years.

The new freight service centre, which is scheduled for completion during the second half of 2011, will initially open with 105 dock doors, but is designed to expand to 160 doors.

The company currently handles more than one million pounds of freight per day out of its existing facility. The new site will provide capacity to expand those volumes to more than 1.5 million pounds per day, encompassing both daytime and night operations.

Con-way Freight operates a fleet of 45 commercial truck-tractors and 156 freight trailers in San Antonio.

From San Antonio, next-day delivery is provided for virtually all of Texas, north to Oklahoma and east into Arkansas and Louisiana. Second-day service extends west into New Mexico, Arizona and as far as Southern California, north into Minnesota, and east into Michigan, Ohio, North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
