Considerably more airfreight volume for Lufthansa Cargo

Lufthansa Cargo (Frankfurt) registered a clear uptrend in the first quarter of 2010

Lufthansa Cargo AG sees signs for growth again. The enterprise registered a considerable increase of the transport performance in the first three months of the year 2010. “After the severe declines in the crisis year 2009 the figures of the first quarter of the current year were only slightly below the 2008-level“, the enterprise announces in a press release.

Between January and March Lufthansa Cargo transported around 390,000 tons of freight and mail, which is 19.3 per cent more than in the same period last year. The biggest growth was registered on the routes to America with a plus of 27.8 per cent, and to Asia/Pacific, which was 21.7 per cent up. The cargo load factor improved thanks to targeted and market-related capacity adjustments combined with an increase of the sold transport performance of 22.2 per cent and shows a growth of 14.2 per cent to 71.8 per cent.

“The positive trend from the end of the year 2009 has continued throughout the first quarter of the current year. America and Asia are still the strong growth drivers. What is exceptionally pleasing, is that we can see a strong demand for both directions, so also from Europe“, Carsten Spohr, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo AG, comments on the latest developments.
