Polzug opens its fifth own container terminal in Poland

Polzug Intermodal container terminal in Katowice (southern Poland) to start operating by the end of June 2010

The network of the container operator Polzug Intermodal (Hamburg) is about to be expanded. “The new container terminal in Katowice will start operation on 30 June. The new building is the fifth facility that the enterprise operates on its own in Poland.

HHLA Intermodal Polska, a subsidiary of the HHLA group, invested a total of around EUR 10 million into the new terminal for combined transport near Kattowitz in Silesia. It is another step towards a systematic expansion of their hinterland network in Middle, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. The offering comprises services for shippers and forwarders, storage areas for containers and door to door container delivery. The special feature of the terminal are three tracks which allow handling complete block trains, having a total length of 625 metres each.

Polzug Intermodal, being a joint venture of DB Mobility Logistics AG, HHLA Intermodal GmbH and PKP Cargo S. A., acts as a rail operator of container trains between the north European container ports Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Rotterdam and the port hinterland in Poland and eastern Europe. With their own offices, subsidiaries and agents in Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and Azerbaijan the enterprise organises transportations to the CIS, Mongolia and Afghanistan. Their 170 employees have moved more than 100,000 TEU in 2009 on behalf of shipping companies, forwarders and transport enterprises.
