Low water level conditions allow to continue examine the ground for remnants of war. As soon as these are finished, and the project area is free for construction works, rebuilding of groins and river engineering works at the banks will be started in respect of water levels. These works are carried out by the tenders, headed by Strabag on behalf of via donau.

The aim of the Bad Deutsch-Altenburg pilot project, initiated by recognised experts from the fields of ecology, shipping and water construction, is to reverse the encroachments, that were taken more than 100 years ago in the frame of the regulation of the Danube, as far as possible and to give back more space to nature. This shall help leading more water to the Danube river meadows and stop the recessing of the riverbed. In addition to the river meadows the higher water levels are also beneficial to the ecological transport mean river shipping. The implementation of the pilot project is accompanied by researches. “Apart from a technological, also an ecological construction supervisory team ensures a careful and gentle implementation of the project“, via donau states in a press release.
