Continuous investments at bayernhafen sites

Bayernhafen group: Stable cargo throughput at six locations in the year 2013 confirms entrepreneurial activities of the management board

Investments in future-oriented locations remain a main pillar of the business model of the bayernhafen group. The management board announced plans to implement projects of a total amount of about EUR 15 million in 2014. A press release emphasises on the renovation and area restructuring of the Westhafen-Südkai in the port of Regensburg as a significant project, also regarding the planned expansion of the container terminal.

The bayernhafen group continued its course throughout 2013, and offered the best possible conditions at all of its six locations in Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Roth, Regensburg and Passau. As location-architect the group invested in the tri-modal infrastructure, optimised their property portfolio, thus creating the conditions for further growth of its customers. The total cost was around EUR 11 million.

Cargo handling by ship, rail and truck remained largely stable at all locations: After 29.6 million tonnes in 2012, 29.97 million tonnes of goods were handled in 2013, meaning an increase of 1.3 per cent. Cargo handling by vessel amounted to 3.6 million tonnes, which is almost the previous year’s level. 6.1 million tonnes of goods were handled on the railway (previous year: 6.7 million tonnes), which is a decrease of 9.4 per cent. The container throughput declined by 5.9 per cent compared to 2012, to 396,415 TEU.
