Cuxport in Cuxhaven: Transhipment of the 1,000.000th BMW

Multifunctional transhipment terminal in Cuxhaven offers more and more technical services to the automobile industry
 
The port service provider Cuxport GmbH transhipped the 1,000.000th car on behalf of BMW at the site in Cuxhaven on 21 November. In the presence of the lord mayor of Cuxhaven, Ulrich Getsch, as well as representatives of BMW and the shipping company United European Car Carriers (UECC) the vehicle, which arrived on the railway, was loaded just-in-time to the ship “Autoprogress“. Together with about 1,000 more new cars UECC carried the new car to Southampton, south England.
 
The ‚jubilee-BMW’ is a sign of the growing importance of Cuxhaven as a transhipment port for the automobile industry. Cuxport was able to increase its throughput volume to the double and a half since 1997, jobs quadrupled. Step-by-step we gained trust of the industry and adjusted better our customers from the automobile industry through investments to the infra and super structure“, says Oliver Fuhljahn, manager automobile logistics of the Cuxport major shareholder Rhenus Port Logistics.
 
In addition to transhipment Cuxport provides the customers with more and more technical services, such as ‚acid wash’ or underside preservation. The construction of berth N° 4 is in the pipeline and shall help Cuxport to adjust to further growth in the automobile sector. Furthermore a deep water berth shall be added to the terminal capacities in the future.
 
Cuxport GmbH operates a multifunctional transhipment terminal in the deep water port Cuxhaven, providing comprehensive transhipment options for RoRo and hinterland transport. The company is a joint venture, held by Rhenus AG & Co. KG (74.9 per cent) and HHLA Container Terminals GmbH (25.1 per cent of the shares).
