Significantly less air freight at the Vienna Airport

Vienna Airport feels the consequences of the slow economic recovery in international air cargo traffic

For the air cargo segment of the Vienna International Airport the first quarter 2012 showed a moderate development in volumes. In the period from January to March they handled 65,173 tonnes of goods (air freight + trucking). This means a decline of 9.1 per cent compared to the first three months of 2011. In March volume declined 11.7 per cent to 24,758 tonnes, Flughafen Wien AG states in a press release.

However passenger traffic developed much better in the reporting period. 4.486 million passengers meant a 9.2 per cent-increase on the first quarter of 2011. The number of flight movements declined by two per cent to 56,238 take offs and landings.
