Czech trade chain Okay uses logistics of Geis

Comprehensive logistics for electronic goods: Geis operates cross docking concept for Okay in the Czech Republic and Slovakia

The internationally acting Geis group supplies the branches of its customer Okay since recently. The trade chain based in Brno, Czech Republic, is the biggest provider of electronic goods in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The complex project covers the supply of the 130 Okay branches as well as fulfilment including distribution for the Okay online shop.

As to the supply of the Okay branches, Geis handles up to 30,000 single parts and even more in the peak season before Christmas. The products range from small batteries to big refrigerators. “We are dealing with a wide range of products, extreme variations in volume and tight time windows“, says Vjačeslav Dobrynský, head of the logistics department of Geis CZ. “The efficient cross docking process, which makes traditional goods storage superfluous, enables us to implement this project successfully nevertheless.“

The supply chain is divided into three steps. On day A Okay sends the orders of the individual branches to the suppliers. At the same time Geis gets a notification. On day B Geis receives the goods from the suppliers and dispatches them to the pallets for the Okay branches. On day C the goods are delivered to the branches by use of the transport capacities of Geis CZ and Geis SK. All these processes are handled paperless via the IT system of Geis.

This cross docking concept is also used for the online shop of Okay, for which Geis tooke over the complete fulfilment. Every day the staff picks and packs hundreds of parcels, which are then distributed via the cross docking system to the Okay branches, or via express parcel services directly to end customers. Geis handles the parcel business via its parcel services Geis Parcel CZ and Geis Parcel SK.

The hub for this project is a 9,000 m² terminal with a safety system including video surveillance in the Pohořelice logistics park, 28 kilometres away from Brno. The location in the south-east of the Czech Republic is ideal for the supply of customers and markets in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia. “Okay is expanding rapidly and so is its product range. Therefore we will improve these processes in the coming months and work intensively on new projects for the online shop, as the B2C business is growing enormously“, says Vjačeslav Dobrynský.
