Dachser boss takes up the cudgels on behalf of professional drivers

Bernhard Simon, CEO of the Dachser-Gruppe, calls for more appreciation for professional drivers and their contribution to road safety

„Professional drivers should receive more appreciation for what they do, especially from other road traffic participants“, Bernhard Simon demands. In the new edition of the ‚DACHSER magazin‘ the CEO of the international logistics service provider, talks to the president of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), Matthias Wissman, on the lack of drivers and the importance of the commercial vehicle industry for Germany.

„The services rendered by professional drivers for our economy and society are often not adequately appreciated. Otherwise we would not be in a position of looking for 20.000 drivers in Germany”, says Simon in ‚DACHSER magazin‘. On average more than 110 kg of goods are transported by truck for each German citizen every day. But it is not only their contribution to our economic performance which deserves recognition, says Simon: “We should not forget that the drivers carry enormous responsibility with regard to road safety on our traffic routes. This alone means that respect is due to them.”

Simon‘s conversation partner Matthias Wissman also refers to the importance of the commercial vehicle industry in Germany. „More than 70 per cent of the total transport performance takes place in trucks. Commercial vehicles are the engine behind our material prosperity.“
