Dachser Food Logistics acquires 50 per cent in Papp Italia

Dachser Food Logistics establishes its own structure in southern Europe through its shareholding in Papp Italia
 
Dachser Food Logistics is dedicating the month of July to creating its own structures in Italy. After approximately two and a half years of successful cooperation, Dachser acquires a 50 per cent shareholding in its Italian partner Papp Italia. The Italian specialist for food logistics transports about 300,000 shipments weighting 165,000 tonnes per year. 
 
“This volume is essential for efficient transport operations and provides a sound basis on which to build,” explains Alfred Miller. The managing director of Dachser Food Logistics views entry into the Italian market as a further stepping stone in the development of a pan-European food logistics network, in which Dachser is relying on a mix of established local partners and its own country organisations. “Papp Italia has proved to be an efficient and reliable partner. And we are on the same wavelength. The time was ripe to establish a more integrative commitment beyond a simple cooperation in this key market.” 
 
Prior to the signing of the contract on 6 July Papp Italia, which was founded in 1997 and has, was a fully-owned subsidiary of the German company Balthasar Papp Internationale Lebensmittellogistik KG, Munich. In 2011 their 110 staff generated annual revenue of EUR 19.5 million. Papp Italia operates an extensive distribution network throughout Italy and supplies all central retail and discounter platforms from its head office in Pradelle di Nogarole Rocca, northern Italy. As for its new shareholding Dachser Food Logistics counts also on proven structures and the existing management.
