Dachser location in Hamburg celebrates 60 years anniversary

Dachser branch in the Elbe metropolis Hamburg provides comprehensive transport and logistics services with 200 employees

The Hamburg branch of Dachser, the international logistics service provider, celebrates its 60th birthday on 20 March 2014. What started in 1954 as a site offering simple transportation and warehousing services is now a location that offers a comprehensive logistics services portfolio.

“Our branch’s importance to Dachser’s European overland transport network is comparable to Hamburg’s significance as a logistics centre for Germany,” says branch manager Markus Dodt. “Each month, 200 employees handle around 6,000 shipments weighing a total of 32,000 tonnes. 145 short-haul trucks, 37 direct connections within Europe each day and a dense overland network ensure quick delivery times throughout Hamburg, Germany and Europe”, he adds.

Moreover, the Dachser branch in Hamburg offers comprehensive contract logistics and numerous value-added services, such as complete assembly services, finishing and kanban services.” The branch has its own private customs warehouse, and its service portfolio is supplemented by the business units Food Logistics and Air & Sea Logistics.

Particularly over the last ten years, the logistics centre in Hamburg has evolved impressively. In 2004, the new logistics facility in Hamburg-Allermöhe opened its doors; in 2008, the organisational separation of food and industry goods took place; and in 2012, Dachser invested EUR 7.2 million in the location and expanded its facility by nearly 4,000 m². “Now we’re ideally positioned to grow with our customers in the future, too,” says Markus Dodt.
