Daimler honours automotive logistician Horst Mosolf for his life work

Automotive logistician Horst Mosolf has recognised market trends early and was always on an equal footing with the customers

Horst Mosolf has been honoured at the 2014 Daimler European Carrier Award, and was awarded a special prize for his life’s work. The company’s decision was based on the fact that they were pursuing a successful partnership with Horst Mosolf GmbH & Co. KG for more than 50 years.

„I am very proud to receive this award. Daimler as a customer and Mercedes-Benz as a brand have accompanied me closely in all these years and are very important to me,“ said Horst Mosolf. Born in Wittstock, he founded a forwarding and transport company in Kirchheim/Teck, Baden-Württemberg, in 1955. The family enterprise has become a global service provider with 2,000 employees at 25 offices in seven countries.

The now 86-year-old recognized early that producers, in addition to the necessary transport services with special car transporters, also needed other services such as storage or service. In order to offer expanded services close the plants or the main hubs, Mosolf also gained a foothold on the European market. In the early 1960s the first branch outside of Germany was established near the Port of Antwerp, Belgium. Horst Mosolf’s son, Dr. Jörg Mosolf, successfully continued the expansion since the 1980s in foreign markets such as Spain, France, Poland and the Czech Republic.

Horst Mosolf has never lost sight of the needs of its customer Daimler. Since the beginning of the cooperation in 1960, the Horst Mosolf GmbH & Co. KG accompanied several market launches of new types of vehicles of the Daimler Group. With multi-million investments, the Daimler company always proved as a good contemporary partner. Thus the automotive logistician built a large engineering and logistics centre in Hambach, France, to support the production of the ‘smart’ car as an extended workbench. The Mosolf sites Kippenheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germersheim and Rhineland-Palatinate, were also playing important roles in the logistics network of Daimler AG.

„If you are pursuing a vision in life, this is also the motivation to realize it with all your might,“ Mosolf explains his business success, which was already appreciated five times by Daimler with the European Carrier Award in the passenger car segment. „With a consistent customer orientation, we were able to become what we are today – and what we will be tomorrow. Because the company’s development is far from being complete. “

Every year the Daimler European Carrier Award is given to the best partner for finished vehicle logistics for cars and trucks. The basis for the evaluation of vehicle transporters is a uniform auditing process by which all vehicle transportations are consistently monitored and evaluated regarding lead times, quality of vehicle shipments as well as the general condition of the equipment that is used.
