DB Schenker Logistics: 20 years in Slovakia

Slovakian DB Schenker organisation plans to expand its logistics activities in Zilina in 2013

These days the national DB Schenker Logistics branch in Slovakia is looking back on 20 years of business activity. After the change in 1992 the newly formed company Schenker s.r.o. started its operations. The first branch in Bratislava was established in 1909, by company founder Gottfried Schenker. Today the enterprise has 130 employees, who handled 230,000 shipments last year, thereby generating turnover of EUR 23 million.

Apart from a terminal in Bratislava there are more locations in Zvolen, Kosice and Zilina. As to international land transport Schenker s.r.o. serves the markets in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden, Turkey and Austria through direct general cargo services. The key customers of the enterprise are from the automotive, consumer goods and electronics industry.

For 2013 they plan to expand activities at the Zilina location, where DB Schenker is to start operating a new 2,500 m² warehouse, which shall be used by automotive customers, as well as by clients from the consumer goods industry in the future. Moreover they intend to reinforce air and sea freight transport from and to Slovakia, for which feeder services are available to the air and sea freight hubs in Austria and the worldwide DB Schenker network. In land transport the Slovakian branch continues expanding transport services towards south-eastern Europe – particularly to Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary –  in the coming months.
