RCA and MÁV Cargo to start efficiency and synergy programme

RCA and MÁV Cargo responding to declining cargo traffic

The RCA Group responds to the declining transport volumes of 2009 with an efficiency and synergy programme. At the beginning of this week in Budapest Prof. Friedrich Macher, Spokesman of the Executive Management of the Rail Cargo Austria AG, presented in detail a package of measures, which is aimed to yield a balanced result for the international logistics group in 2009.

Mr. Macher reckons with a decline of the freight volume by 15 per cent in 2009 and losses in turnover of about EUR 130 million, compared to the previous year. The aim of the plan against the crisis is to cut costs by a total of EUR 150 million. In addition to economisations in production and “re-routings” in international traffic, the group plans also to optimise the management of empty wagons and of overheads. The synergies resulting from the merger of RCA’s and MÁV Cargo’s activities are expected to improve the result of 2009 by around EUR 15 million.
