Danube Partners High & Heavy starts in October

New provider of transport services for heavy goods and rolling load on the Danube from Enns to southeastern Europe

These days a new provider starts operating in the river shipping business on the Danube-river. Named Danube Partners High & Heavy GmbH, logistics expert Oskar Stelzhammer has recently established a new company. The business object of the newly founded company based in Enns (Upper Austria) is the operation of a ro-ro liner service for heavy cargo of up to 200 tons per piece and rolling load (e.g.: machines, installations, boxes, tanks and steel constructions) from Enns to Rousse in Bulgaria as well as to Giurgiu in Romania and return. “Of course this service will be open to freight from the region of Nuremberg and Regensburg or from Constanza in the future”, Oskar Stelzhammer emphasises in the interview with the LogEASTics Magazine.

Supported by the Ennshafen port and via donau – Österreichische Wasserstraßen-Gesellschaft mbH, Danube Partners High & Heavy GmbH, owned by Oskar Stelzhammer, wants to start operating this October. During the initial stage an own ro-ro barge and motor freight vessel shall be operated in a three-weekly rhythm. There are further plans to increase the service to a weekly frequency.

Oskar Stelzhammer sees good opportunities for the ro-ro liner service. “The Danube is getting more and more interesting. The river offers freight forwarders and shippers a reliable alternative for overweight and oversize consignments to road transport. There’s music in this segment. As opposed to consistent road transport the saving of transit tolls is an economic appeal as well“, he says optimistically about the potential of the market.
