DB Intermodal opens new container depot at Nuremberg port

Container depot Nuremberg by DB Intermodal serves as a basis to connect Adriatic ports and land bridge to Eastern Europe

DB Intermodal Services GmbH, a company of the DB Schenker Rail division of Deutsche Bahn, has opened a new container depot at the port of Nuremberg. A 53,000 sq. m. area offers space for around 6,000 TEU. As for repair of damaged containers, a 26 x 38 metres hall is available. After the start-up of the cargo rail terminal in 2009, the new depot creates the conditions for DB Schenker Rail striving to connect the Adriatic ports and a land bridge with Eastern Europe. The freight storage offer of DB Intermodal Services GmbH allows also implementing new concepts required by the port industry regarding maritime hinterland transport in Nuremberg.

„Our new, modern container depot meets already today the demands of maritime transport industry to complete cargo rail terminals by expanding storage areas including delivery and collection services. It provides the necessary services to ship owners and forwarders”, says Karsten Sachsenröder, CEO Marketing of DB Schenker Rail.

DB Intermodal Services GmbH carries out 500,000 container handlings in its depots per year (800,000 TEU) and delivers 100,000 containers on site.
