ND Group acquires British logistics group TDG

Acquisition of TDG Logistics consolidates Norbert Dentressangle’s position in its core segments transport, logistics and forwarding

 

The management board of Norbert Dentressangle (ND Group) expects the company acquisition in the UK, which was announced at the beginning of this week, to strengthen their position as an international provider of transport, logistics and forwarding services. For the price of about EUR 235 million the French corporate group buys from DouglasBay Capital plc 100 per cent of the shares of Laxey Logistics Ltd., which is among experts also known as the parent company of the British transport and logistics group TDG. The transaction is subject to the agreement of the European competition authorities and should be finalised in mid-January 2011.

Integrating TDG, the ND Group advances to a big provider of transport, logistics and forwarding services in Europe. Together the two companies with 33,000 employees generate an annual turnover of around EUR 3.6 billion – 53 per cent or EUR 1.95 billion thereof in the “Road Transport“ division, 44 per cent or EUR 1.6 billion in the “Logistics“ division an three per cent or EUR 100 million by forwarding services. With 8,000 tractors and 11,000 trailer units the enterprise operates the biggest company-owned fleet in Europe. The warehousing capacity is given with 6.5 million square metres.

TDG headquartered in Manchester employs around 6,300 persons at 134 locations in Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Hungary and expects a turnover of about EUR 840 million for the current year. The “inventory“ of the enterprise acting in the fields of transport, logistics and forwarding comprises apart from 1,350 motorised and 2,600 trailer units also terminals with 1.2 million sq. m. warehousing and throughput capacity. The customer circle includes many reputable companies from trade and industry (e.g.: Akzo Nobel, Argos, Diversey, Honda, Kimberly Clark, Maxxium, Sainsbury, Tata Steel and Tesco Fuel).
