DB Schenker and HMM to reduce CO2 emissions

This is the first strategy agreement between a global logistics services provider (DB Schenker) and an Asian container shipping company (HMM)

DB Schenker Logistics and Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) have signed a six-year strategic agreement on reducing CO2 emissions from ocean freight. After cooperations with Maersk, Hapag Lloyd and Hamburg Sued, this is the first agreement of its kind with an Asian carrier. Seoul-based HMM will undertake to reduce the CO2 emissions of every container it ships on behalf of DB Schenker Logistics until 2020 by 17 percent compared to 2014 levels.

„The objective of the six-year agreement is to fuel customers‘ interest in sustainable ocean freight on the market by bringing aspects of sustainability into business decision-making processes”, says Dr. Karl-Friedrich Rausch, Management Board Member for Transportation and Logistics at DB Mobility Logistics AG and Chief Sustainability Officer of Deutsche Bahn AG. HMM is the fourth partner to sign such an agreement.
