DB Schenker Rail scraps plans for own Intermodal-Bahn

New Management and organisational structure of rail cargo transport with Deutsche Bahn

DB Schenker Rail, the European rail cargo segment of Deutsche Bahn AG, is going to streamline its Management and organisational structure as of 1 January 2010. These measures will be implemented on condition of the required decision of the Supervisory Board and the co-determination bodies.

Dr. Alexander Hedderich, CEO of DB Schenker Rail, wants to form a network of the numerous activities of the company in Europe. The Management structure is to be streamlined. Moreover responsibility for results will be clearly assigned within the company. However, the Management refrains from developing an own combined transport railway in the intermodal sector.

The previous organisational logistics of DB Schenker Rail are basically maintained, but will be simplified to one single business unit level. The business unit will be further composed of the three regional business units “Germany/Region Central", „Region West" and „Region East" as well as of the four business unit activities distribution, production, personal and finances that are managed from Europe. The previous business units Automotive and Intermodal are about to be integrated into the European and German distribution structure.
