Delegation from Vorarlberg visits the Port of Hamburg
Hamburg’s port industry welcomed a high-ranking delegation from Vorarlberg; Meeting with a 13,000 TEU vessel was among the highlights of the journey
On April 7 and 8, 2014, a delegation from Vorarlberg followed the invitation of Alexander Till, head of the Port of Hamburg Marketing representative office in Vienna, and travelled to Hamburg. Twenty participants from the national government, the economic chamber and from the private industry of Vorarlberg could take a look at the performance of the north German port.
Mag. Karlheinz Rüdisser, deputy state governor of Vorarlberg, accompanied the delegation in his political function for economy, labour market, infrastructure, tourism and transport. He took this journey as an opportunity for bilateral negotiations with Frank Horch, Hamburg economics senator.
The meeting with Hyundai Dream, a 13,000 TEU vessel that was being loaded and unloaded, has been a particular highlight. At the terminal of the Wallmann company cranes produced by the Vorarlberg company Liebherr were waiting for their shipment. Also the Siemens gas turbines stored at the terminal, weighing up to 306 tonnes, were quite impressive.
During an evening reception in the Hamburger Hafenklub the Land Vorarlberg presented itself as a strong industrial location, documented by a best-practice example of the Künz company. The Vorarlberg-based manufacturer of cranes had been involved in the expansion project at the Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA). The company has built and delivered the 52 gantry cranes, allowing trucks to pass underneath, for the 26 fully automated block storage areas at the CTA.
In terms of export, Vorarlberg is ranked as the second-strongest region in Austria. Its geographic location next to Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, Austria make this Bundesland particulary interessting for supra-regional transport solutions.
