Deutsche Post DHL feels positioned better than ever

After a successful fiscal year 2011 the Deutsche Post DHL group has a good foundation for generating further profitable growth

Deutsche Post DHL (Bonn), the worldwide operating postal and logistics group, holds out the prospect of further growth in turnover and results for the 2012 fiscal year. "Be it in the internet or the emerging markets – we have a very strong presence in exactly the places where growth is being generated. Flexibility combined with the development of additional products and solutions that are designed to meet the special needs of our customers, we have an excellent foundation for generating further profitable growth“, said CEO Dr. Frank Appel at the balance press conference for the 2011 fiscal year. “The focus lies on organic growth”, he added.

In the 2011 fiscal year the Deutsche Post DHL group boosted its revenues by 2.8 percent to EUR 52.8 billion. At more than EUR 2.4 billion, the group’s operating earnings were almost one-third higher than the previous year’s level. Consolidated net profit totaled EUR 1.2 billion in the past fiscal year. Excluding the valuation effects related to the Postbank sale, this means a rise of more than 50 percent year on year. "2011 was a very good year for our group," Frank Appel comments the business development. "We hit all of our targets, made very good progress with the implementation of our Strategy 2015 and further bolstered the already very strong platform for a sustainable expansion of our earnings in the future."

As for the Express division the group showed revenues of EUR 11.8 billion (up 5.9 per cent), and operating earnings at EUR 927 million (up 86 per cent). The Global Forwarding, Freight division increased revenues by 4.9 per cent to EUR 15 billion in 2011. EBIT in 2011 was 12 per cent above the previous year’s level at EUR 429 million. The overland transport business performed particularly well, producing revenue growth of nearly 10 per cent. The contract logistics business covered in the supply chain segment reported a revenue increase of 1.2 per cent to EUR 13.2 billion. At EUR 362 million, operating earnings were 56.7 per cent above the previous year’s level.
