Deutsche Post DHL focuses on organic growth

Deutsche Post and DHL move closer together with “2-pillar strategy”

With a new name and a “2-pillar strategy” Deutsche Post World Net and DHL are preparing themselves for new challenges. In the future the two companies will act under the joint brand Deutsche Post DHL covering the group segments “letters” and “logistics”. After a period of fierce expansion all available forces will be used to boost organic growth said CEO Frank Appel at the presentation of “Strategie 2015”. “We don’t need to reinvent the group, but make more of the resources available,” he added.

Mr. Appel intends to position the group’s logistics segment as “the global logistics service provider” in the market. On this purpose cooperation within the three business segments Global Forwarding/Freight, Express and Supply Chain shall be strengthened. In addition the expansion of the DHL-business segments will be split into key sectors with own managements such as life science, technology or automotive. This will make orientation easier for customers. The business segments will be integrated under the direction of an Executive Committee DHL.

Deutsche Post DHL based in Bonn has 18,500 locations around the world and employs more than 500,000 persons. In 2008 the group’s turnover amounted to more than EUR 54 billion. In 220 countries and territories DHL has about 310,000 employees on the payroll. They render services within the following fields: transborder express business, air/seafreight, road and rail transport, contract logistics and international correspondence.
