DFDS streamlines network of the Baltic Sea ferry services

Closure of DFDS Group’s ro-pax liner service from Lübeck to Klaipeda

The ro-pax liner service between Lübeck and Riga, operated by the DFDS shipping company, is now history. The route was closed down on 27 January, the staff in the agency offices in Lübeck and Riga was reduced by 7 jobs. This trade has brought losses, the Management states on the measure.

DFDS has put Baltic Sea operations on a new base. The focus lies now in a more intense service of the ports of Klaipeda (Lithuania) and St. Petersburg. The ferry port of Sassnitz profits particularly from this development, as it is called more often by DFDS’ ro-ro vessels as of now. At the beginning of the year the shipping offer for rolling load from Sassnitz to Klaipeda was increased from one to two weekly departures.
