DHL Paket cuts its own network in Austria
Deutsche Post DHL Group enters into a long-term partnership with Austrian Post. According to the agreement, Austrian Post will deliver parcels sent to Austria by DHL customers. For this purpose, employees and a large part of the affected logistics locations are to be taken over by DHL Paket.
The partnership combines the strengths of both companies in their respective delivery networks. It is designed to enable partners to jointly exploit the potential in the growing cross-border e-commerce business. For this purpose, customers in both countries will be offered high-quality parcel logistics with short transit times for incoming and outgoing shipments, according to a press release.
Frank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL Group, expects the partnership to accelerate growth in Austria. “We will explore additional opportunities for cooperation with Austrian Post in the future, as we continue to focus on the international e-commerce business as one of the main growth drivers for the Group.” He announces that he is taking another step in the agreement on the way to improving quality and productivity in the European parcel business.
The start of the long-term partnership is still subject to review by the German and Austrian competition authorities. If there is a decision on this, the cooperation should start in 2019.
“We are pleased to have gained the Deutsche Post DHL Group as a partner. Our Austria-wide delivery stands for quality and reliability.” said Georg Pölzl, Director General of Austrian Post. “Pick-up stations, self-service zones, reception boxes and the features of our app are unique and are very well received by our customers.”
Building on the 108 million parcels transported in 2018, Austrian Post’s medium-term goal was to increase the volume to 150 million parcels by 2022. With the new cooperation, an important step is taken to reach this goal earlier.
