DHL to build new logistics centre for Primark

DHL Supply Chain has announced it is building a logistics centre in Mönchengladbach, Germany for its customer Primark. The fashion retailer currently has 225 stores throughout Western Europe and entered the German retail market in 2009.

The new facility with a ground area of 40,000 sq m will be located in the "Regiopark" near the A61 and A46 motorways. The site will include a four-section warehouse, as well as a two-storey structure for functional rooms and offices; it will also employ energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly technologies.

The new distribution centre will handle shipments for Primark stores located in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The facility will be purpose built to warehouse and dispatch fashion garments in cartons and will also feature a hanging garment racking and rail transport system. The facility will start operating in mid-2012.

"We are pleased that Primark continues relying on DHL Supply Chain as its partner to support the expansion of its business in Europe. After the successful implementation of the distribution centres in the UK and Iberia, this project is the natural next step in our strong relationship. With the new strategically located facility, we are able to provide Primark with the infrastructure and service it needs to expand its successful business," says Martin Seidenberg, Chief Executive Officer of DHL Supply Chain Central Europe. "We are also pleased to be bringing new jobs to the region."
