Economic Chamber awards Vega International, Salzburg

Austrian Economic Chamber honours special performance of domestic transport logistics companies for export business
 
In the frame of a gala event at Vienna’s Museumsquartier, the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO) presented the “Exportpreis 2013” on 20 June. With this prize WKO honours companies from different segments, who contributed to Austria’s economic rise through their international commitment. In addition to the categories trade & crafts (winner: Test-Fuchs GmbH), retail (Examon Handelsges.m.b.H.), industry (Bertsch Holding GmbH), information & consulting (Braintribe IT Technologies GmbH) and tourism & leisure industry (Area 47 Betriebs GmbH) as well as transport & communications, they presented also the Global Player Award 2013 (RHI AG) and the Expat Award 2013 (Peter Aldrian von Plansee Japan Ltd.).
 
From three nominees in the category transport & communications – Schenker & Co. AG, UnitCargo Speditionsges.m.b.H. and Vega International Car Transport & Logistic GmbH – the latter one emerged as the winner. Alexander Klacska, President of the WKO-division Transport and Communications, presented the prize to Managing Director Franz Blum. Wolfgang Schmid, Manager Marketing & Sales, took over the second prize for the Schenker & Co. AG.
 
The transport company Vega International headquartered in Salzburg operates seven subsidiaries in Europe, one of them in Turkey. Their key business is transfer of utility vehicles, such as trucks, busses and trailers under their own direction, involving multimodal transport means. Every year up to 800 drivers transport about 50,000 vehicles. In total the about 1,000 employees generate annual turnover of EUR 65 million. Their customers include mainly OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) such as MAN, Mercedes, Scania, Schmitz Cargobull and Volvo. Vega International is operating in 30 countries in Europe, Russia, Turkey, and since recently also in China (via cooperations), as Managing Director Franz Blum disclosed in the interview with the Austrian transport magazine Österreichische Verkehrszeitung.
