Emirates SkyCargo sharpens its “seafood profile”

Regular service from Dubai to Dakar and return consolidates Emirates SkyCargo’s position in the fresh fish and sea food segment

The Emirates SkyCargo management expects a considerable rise of their position as a specialist in the market segment of air freight transport of fresh fish and seafood, resulting from the expansion of their route network to West Africa. From 1 September the Emirates air freight division markets the belly capacities of the new regular service from Dubai to Dakar in Senegal and return.

For traffic ex Senegal Ram Menen, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President Cargo, expects an annual volume at around 3,500 tons of seafood. According to his estimate a considerable amount of the seafood volumes from Senegal are transported to the European consumer markets via Dubai. In the opposite direction from Europe via Dubai to Dakar the Emirates manager reckons with large amounts of electronic goods.

Dakar marks the 19th African destination within the global route network of Emirates Airline. The Arab airline will fly five times per week to Senegal’s capital from the beginning of September. They will deploy an Airbus A340-300, with a carrying capacity of around 14 tons of air freight per flight.
