Rhenus builds customs and logistics terminal in western Russia

Rhenus group sets up new customs terminal according to European standard at Krasnaja Gorka near Smolensk

Rhenus group has recently laid the foundation stone for a customs and logistics terminal in the Smolensk region in Russia. The subsidiary OOO Rhenus Customs Broker takes thereby into account the new strategic orientation of the Russian Federation’s customs policy, which aims to move the customs offices to the border regions. The aim is also to ease the pressure on roads in major urban centres in Russia.

“As a result of this new building, which serves as an alternative to previous customs offices near the capital, we are enhancing our services to the benefit of our customers. The aim is to distribute goods in this enormous country quickly”, said Uwe Oemmelen, Member of the Rhenus Executive Management.

The terminal will offer 2,200 sq. m. and 400 truck stands for Rhenus partners at the Krasnaja Gorka location during the initial phase. It will be possible to gradually expand the logistics center to a maximum of 30,000 sq. m. at a later stage.
