Huettemann group (Duisburg) grows 25 per cent
Majority holding of Merkel-Wetzel forwarding company consolidates position of Huettemann group in contract logistics
The Huettemann group with its headquarters in Duisburg is to acquire 70 per cent of the shares of the forwarding company Spedition Merkel-Wetzel GmbH based in Kuppenheim, Baden, with effect from 1 January 2011. “Thus we grow 25 per cent, strengthen our contract logistics competence and expand our presence in Southern Germany“, explains Klaus Hüttemann, managing associate of the enterprise. Both parties keep the costs of the transaction confidential. Spedition Merkel-Wetzel GmbH based in Kuppenheim counts among the biggest logistics providers in the Baden region. The service portfolio comprises forwarding as well as contract logistics. The core activities are cardboard and paper logistics with the reference customers Smurfit Kappa and Mayr-Melnhof. Around 125 employees work at five locations with more than 60,000 m² logistics area and generated a turnover of about EUR 26 million in the business year 2010. The regionally known firm Spedition Merkel-Wetzel is to be maintained. The previous associates Hermann P. Merkel (63) and Hans-Jörg Wetzel (50) will each keep 15 per cent of their shares and will continue to manage business. Under the motto „Logistics and More“ the Huettemann group is also active in contract logistics business with service concepts for advertising material, cosmetics and toys as well as in international transport management.
