Enlarged service portfolio at BLG Logistics location in Kelheim

BLG Logistics Group opens service centre for cavity and underbody treatment in Kelheim

Together with their longstanding customer Suzuki, Bremen based BLG Logistics Group has inaugurated a new service station for cavity and underbody treatment at their car terminal in Kelheim (Germany). “This is another milestone on our way towards a permanent expansion of the depth of our services and our service quality“, Manfred Kuhr, vice chairman of the enterprise, said on this occasion. The core of the facility is the 1,250 sq. m. hall, equipped with 14 lifting platforms.

The automotive terminal in Kelheim was opened in February 1995. Suzuki has used the facility at the Danube from the beginning. In the first year almost 6,500 vehicles were transported to Kelheim on the railway. Since 1997 all vehicles from the Hungarian manufacturing plant have been arriving on inland vessels in Kelheim. Therefore BLG operates the two special vessels HEILBRONN and KELHEIM.

Kelheim is an evolving car terminal and plays an important role within the East-strategy of BLG Logistics Group. This is why they are continuously investing into this site. The automotive terminal has grown to a total area of 500,000 sq. m. with several expansion steps. It provides space for 26,000 vehicles. Two multi-storied park decks are integrated part of the facility. Moreover two track connections, two head ramps, a ro/ro ponton and a technical centre for pre-delivery inspection are available. Last year 135,000 vehicles were handled in Kelheim; 20 per cent less than in 2008.
