Ennshafen „goes international“

International NELI-workshop at Ennshafen improves measures to professionalise inland waterway transport

 

From 11 to 12 October an international meeting in the frame of the EU-supported NELI project took place at Ennshafen port. Apart from Austrian participants the „transnational workshop“ at the Ennshafen logistics centre was also visited by guests from Romania, Croatia and Hungary. The NELI project is dedicated to establish a cooperation network between the actors of the inland shipping, research, training and administration branch in the Danube region.

New training offers and the establishment of an information and training centre at Ennshafen in tight cooperation with the waterway development company via donau shall promote inland waterways for the transport of goods. “The 1st integrated European waterway information centre will play a pioneering role particularly in the Danube region“, as Christian Steindl, head of the Ennshafen port, pointed out.

Targeted training and education programs shall advance the professionalisation of this occupational area with regard to skilled staff, in order to meet the practical requirements of the river shipping industry and transport business. The consortium of the NELI project is composed of 15 different organisations in eight Danube riparian states. The target of the two-days event at Ennshafen was to bring together representatives from politics, industry and educational institutions, so they can exchange their know how in various fields and integrate it into the project.
