Ethiopian Airlines launches long-haul connection from Vienna

New liner service of Ethiopian Airlines to fly from Vienna to Addis Ababa four times weekly effective immediately; ATC Aviation Services to manage cargo sales in Austria

Starting on June 2, 2014 Ethiopian Airlines is offering a new long-haul connection to Vienna. The African airline will operate four weekly flights to the capital Addis Ababa. The Boeing 757-200 aircraft will be departing from Vienna every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at 11:10 p.m., arriving in Addis Ababa on the next morning at 7:05 a.m. (ET725). The freight capacity will be marketed by ATC Aviation Cargo Services, running an office at the Vienna airport.

„We are very happy that we will be able to offer efficient and targeted connections to Europe in cooperation with our Star Alliance partner, Austrian Airlines. This will give our passengers and forwarding clients access to further European cities such as Prague, Bratislava, Warsaw, Budapest and Bucharest“, said Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO Ethiopian Airlines.

“Thanks to this new direct connection to the African continent, this economic market which is of international significance to Austria will be even more accessible. At the same time, the flight service to Addis Ababa opens up an important gateway for tourism and business, which the business and tourism regions in Austria, Eastern Europe and Africa will all benefit from”, says Julian Jäger, member of the management board of Flughafen Wien AG.

Ethiopian Airlines, one of the fastest growing carriers in Africa, has started its first scheduled flight in 1946 from Addis Abeba to Cairo. Today the airline is calling 81 destinations around the globe. Ethiopia’s national airline is operating daily non-stop flights overnight from Frankfurt, and as of now four weekly flights from Vienna to Addis Abeba, and from there to 47 more destinations on the African continent.
