Eva Air Cargo managed delicate transport mission to Vienna

Eva Air Cargo carried the world’s smallest mammal to Vienna; from February 25 the bumblebee bat will be exhibited in the Vienna Museum of Natural History

In the frame of the special exhibition “trading in death – the final mass extinction?“ in the Vienna Museum of Natural History a new object will be presented from February 25, 2014: A specimen found dead of the critically endangered bumblebee bat (craseonycteris thonglongyai), which is besides the Etruscan shrew deemed to be the smallest mammal of the world, weighing no more than about 2 grammes. The private Taiwanese airline Eva Air took charge of the transport of this rare animal from Thailand to Vienna.

“Eva Air Cargo has carried out numerous delicate transportations – ranging from rare tortoises and panda bears to fish. Thus it was obvious for us to support the project around the world’s smallest bat and carry the animal ‘that brings good luck’ – as it is said in Taiwanese, to the exhibition in the Vienna Museum of Natural History“, says Martin Hirl, head of marketing and sales Eva Air Austria.

Using the technologically advanced aircraft Eva Air Cargo could carry every kind of air freight – from technical components and computers to living fish and priceless art works – with ideal temperature and conditions. In this context, the cooperation with major international museums is worth mentioning: Eva Air has already carried art treasures of the British Museum in London and the Louvre in Paris, and in 2008 extraordinary exhibits of the National Palace Museum in Taipei to Vienna for an exhibition at the art history museum.

The private Taiwanese airline Eva Air was founded in 1989 as a sister company of the Evergreen Marine Corporation, one of the world’s largest container shipping companies based in Taipei. The company operates currently a fleet of 61 aircraft calling more than 60 destinations on four continents (Asia, Australia, Europe and America). The target of Eva Air is to continue the expansion of their route network and fleet.
