Felbermayr heavy cargo port manages another large-scale project

Components of a ball mill in Russia were transshipped to five river vessels in the Felbermayr heavy cargo port in Linz

At the end of January nine heavy-lift cargo units of a ball mill in eastern Russia were transshipped in the Felbermayr heavy cargo port. The order comprising a total of five shiploads was awarded by the globally operating transport and logistics group Kuehne + Nagel.

“The two biggest components manufactured in the Felbermayr heavy cargo halls for this order are eleven metres long, seven metres wide, six metres high and weigh about 97 tonnes", says Thomas Pamminger from the heavy-lift transport division of the company based in Wels, Upper Austria. There were five more cargo units weighing 71 tonnes and two of 70 tonnes each. The final production took place in the port.

The transport from the hall to the harbour basin about 100 metres away was effected with a parallel coupled, 8-axle special vehicle. The cargo units were loaded to two vessels using a portal crane on rail. The ship carried the cargo from Linz to Antwerp, where they were transhipped to maritime vessels and shipped to Magadan, at the Sea of Okhotsk in eastern Russia. Two more vessels, carrying 91 more accessory items were also loaded by Felbermayr on behalf of Kuehne + Nagel.
