bayernhafen group posts almost stable cargo handling

Water-based transshipment at the six branches of the bayernhafen group has slightly improved compared with 2011

The initiatives the bayernhafen group has launched to sustainably shift transport volumes from road to rail and waterway show their effect. In 2012 the six branches Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Roth, Regensburg and Passau were able to keep cargo volumes handled by ship, railway and truck almost on the same level as last year: Following 29.8 million tonnes in 2011, they registered about 29.6 million tonnes in the reporting period, which means a decline by 0.8 per cent.

The cargo volume handled by vessels rose despite difficult conditions by 4.2 per cent to 3.674 million tonnes. Rail cargo volume declined 5 per cent to 6.7 million tonnes. The cargo volume handled in unaccompanied combined transport via the terminals Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg and Regensburg rose 2.3 per cent year-on-year to 421,214 TEU in 2012. According to the management board of the bayernhafen group, it was a great success to continue the rolling road service across the Brenner pass through a German-Italian cooperation.
