VTG manages two new major rail logistics orders

Novelis, producer of aluminium, and Glencore, raw material trader, use VTG’s know-how in railway transport

The Hamburg-based wagon hire and rail logistics company VTG Aktiengesellschaft manages two new major rail logistics orders. Since recently the subsidiary Transpetrol has been acting as forwarder and rail company on behalf of Novelis, a producer of aluminium, and operates trains for Novelis under its own direction. An about 3,000 tonnes-block train is daily linking on a daily basis the locations of the world’s biggest producer of rolled aluminium products and global market leader in the recycling of beverage cans. Therefore Transpetrol hired two high-performance cargo locomotives. This is the first time tractive units are operated in route service for VTG. They plan to use them about 350 days per year.

The wagon-hire division of VTG AG implemented a major international order planned on the long term with the globally acting Glencore Group. The raw materials trader will use a total of 300 tank wagons of VTG to transport liquids. A few weeks ago the first 50 wagons were handed over. They are technically designed to transport pure plant oil, which is transported two to three times per week from Glencore’s new plant in Foktö, Hungary, to filling stations and warehouses throughout Europe.
