Gebrüder Weiss sets mile stone in Serbia

Serbian forwarding company Eurocargo about to be integrated into Gebrüder Weiss Group

After the Gebrüder Weiss Group has recently established a location in Macedonia, they take another crucial step to consolidate their position in central and eastern Europe. As of 12 November 2009 the Austrian provider of transport and logistics services takes over more than 75 per cent of the shares of the international forwarding company Eurocargo in Serbia. The remaining shares remain under the ownership of the previous Partner and Managing Director Dragan Simovic. The previous majority shareholder, the forwarder D-Eckhard Niedermann from Hamburg, retires by reasons of age. The purchasing price is being kept confidential.

The official merger of Gebrüder Weiss and Eurocargo is to become effective on 1 January 2010. Until then the relocation of the 30 employees of the Serbian national GW company to the new building of Eurocargo in Dobanovci will be finished.

Eurocargo currently has 100 employees and generated a turnover of around EUR 7.5 million in 2008. The enterprise operates locations in Dobanovci and Leskovac as well as customs offices at the borders with Hugnary and Croatia. Gebrüder Weiss and Eurocargo have 130 employees in total in Serbia. In addition to the service portfolio of GW – international and national general cargo and load transportation, air & sea services, distribution and procurement solutions as well as customs handling – they will offer services in the fields of warehousing (including dangerous goods) as well as customs handling with their own offices at the border in Serbia.
