Fiege assumes logistics for Pirelli Germany

Boost of the position in tyre logistics: Fiege group establishes logistics centre in Dieburg, Hesse, for EUR 50 million for its new customer Pirelli Germany

As of January 1, 2014 the Fiege group has assumed logistics for all product groups of Pirelli Deutschland GmbH. Thus the contract logistics provider headquartered in Greven, Westphalia, is extending its position as a service provider for tyre logistics. “We are glad we were able to convince top tyre producer Pirelli with the quality and performance of our services“, says Jens Fiege, CEO Fiege group.

Takeover of storage, order-picking and shipping throughout Germany is aimed at establishing an ideal service level for the logistics chain of the premium tyre producer. The focus lies on the fastest-possible service and direct response to individual customer requirements. To reach this high availability and simultaneously save resources and avoid transportations, Fiege plans to join small sites in the area of the Pirelli production site in Breuberg in a new Fiege logistics facility in Dieburg (Hesse) on the medium term.

Works for the about 90.000 m² warehousing facility, designed as multi user centre, start in February 2014 and shall be completed by the end of 2014/early 2015. The new logistics facility will be one of Europe’s most modern and sustainable logistics premises. Its environmental friendliness shall be proven by a certificate of the German Sustainable Building Council. Investment for the new building totals EUR 50 to 60 million. Pirelli will occupy a large part of the new building. According to the multi user concept the remaining area can be used by customers from Fiege’s eight core industries.

The Fiege group has been providing tyre logistics since the end of the 1970ies. Until today they handled logistics for about 20 million tyres per year. Fiege operates tyre warehouses in Hamburg, Dortmund, the Frankfurt area and Lahr as well as in the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary. The company’s service range covers import and export management, warehousing activities including value added services and daily transport services with guaranteed time of 24h, in the domestic area as well as across the border to Benelux or to Switzerland. The distribution network designated for tyre logistics includes also Austria, Slovakia, the Balkan region and the Baltic States.
