CMA CGM and Maersk start direct service from Far East to Adriatic Sea

On June 16 a new era began at the Port of Koper. Calling at Pier 1, CMA CGM Balzac is the largest container vessel that has ever been handled at the Slovenian seaport. With a total length of 300 metres, storing positions for 6,750 containers are available. When the vessel is loaded to its full capacity draught is 14 metres. The maximum cruising speed is just above 26 knots.

CMA CGM Balzac marks the start of a new weekly liner service at the Port of Koper. It is named Phoenician Express and offers a direct link between ports in the northern Adriatic Sea and in the Far East. The service is operated by the shipping companies CMA CGM and Maersk Line. Each of them introduced four vessels with capacities of 6,700 TEU into the service. The port rotation is as follows: Shanghai, Pusan, Hong Kong, Chiwan, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Kelang, Jeddah, Damietta, Trieste and Koper.
