Gebrüder Weiss acts as pioneer at its site in Wörgl (Tyrol)

Transport and logistics service provider Gebrüder Weiss opens Austria’s first climate-neutral logistics hall in Wörgl

Opening Austria’s first climate-neutral logistics hall at the Wörgl site in Tyrol, the Gebrüder Weiss group underlines its commitment to sustainability. At around EUR 2 million, the investment in this building project was above average, but it should pay for itself in the long term and will again demonstrate Gebrüder Weiss‘ corporate social responsibility, explains board member Wolfram Senger-Weiss. "The construction of the climate-neutral hall in Wörgl is another milestone in our sustainability strategy, which we have defined as a combination of economic, environmental and social responsibility. Our commitment in these areas is measurable and transparent," he adds.

Thanks to the new logistics hall, 1,300 m² of new handling and commissioning space is added to the Wörgl site by February 2011, along with an additional cold store with 150 pallet spaces. Supported by ClimatePartner Austria GmbH, the new hall was entirely built using a wood frame method, because avoiding the usual metal panels avoids generation of CO2. In addition, the use of an energy-saving heat pump as heat source will save around 59 tons of greenhouse gases per year. These structural measures to reduce CO2 are complemented by the conversion of the entire logistics facility to renewable energy. Overall these will result in annual CO2 savings of around 90 tons.
