Gebrüder Weiss enters Turkish market

Gebrüder Weiss forwarding branch in Istanbul puts clear focus on multimodal services; Misel Yakop and Ridvan Demirhan form dual leadership

Gebrüder Weiss (GW) has now implemented its contemplated market entry in Turkey. At the start of this year, the forwarding company opened its own branch in Istanbul. As of now, the new team in Istanbul, currently comprising 13 employees, is offering services in the areas of overland transport, multimodal solutions and air & sea freight. Misel Yakop, responsible for land transport, and Ridvan Demirhan, in charge of the Air & Sea unit, are jointly managing the new site. Both report directly to Thomas Moser, Regional Manager South East/CIS, and Vojislav Jevtic, Regional Manager Air & Sea Turkey/Caucasus. With this dual leadership, GW wishes to strongly emphasise the multimodal focus of the new location and to further promote it.

Both GW managers see high economic potential in Turkey with promising opportunities for the successful positioning as a full service logistics provider. “The export trade volumes for Turkey are expected to increase to USD 500 billion by 2023,” says Vojislav Jevtic. “Ten large container ports will emerge. One sea port will probably join the ranks amongst the top 10 worldwide.” Above all, Thomas Moser emphasises the significance of the new Turkish branch as a gateway to the Caucasus and the Near East: “Turkish producers steered strongly towards the Near East during the last crisis in 2008, enabling them to absorb the negative economic effects relatively well.” As a result, those Turkish companies involved in transport increased their knowledge of the East. GW can now build upon this network.

GW possesses traditionally powerful competence in transport and logistics solutions across Southeast Europe with over 80 of its own sites between Basel and Bucharest. Geographically, the new site now closes the gap between these branches and the logistics terminal, opened in Georgia in autumn 2013.
