Gebrüder Weiss opens new terminal at Maria Saal-location (Carinthia)

Gebrüder Weiss logistics terminal creates 10 new jobs

On 3 August 2009 Gebrüder Weiss put into operation its new logistics terminal in Maria Saal. The construction was implemented with an investment of more than EUR 8.5 million. This was a clear commitment to the industrial location of Carinthia. The building offers the capacities required for becoming the leading logistics provider in the most southern province of Austria, as Regional Manager Peter Schafleitner explains.

The new 30,000 sq. m. plot accommodates 2,500 sq. m. of logistics space, a 3,500 sq. m. ultramodern cargo handling building and around 1,300 sq. m. office area. Operating Manager Markus Ebner explains: "This construction gives us enough capacity in Carinthia to provide our customers with complete logistic solutions – from parcels to full truck loads and from storage to individual order selection."

All the current GW warehouses in Carinthia are now concentrated at the new terminal which has a direct rail connection for wagon traffic. ”Our customers will benefit from the more efficient and optimised processes and from the concentration of logistic resources at one and the same location”, says Bernhard Allmann, Maria Saal Traffic Manager. The plot has been chosen to allow for expansion, so another logistics and cargo handling area of more than 9,000 sq. m. can be added if necessary.

The new terminal created about 10 to 12 jobs. Moreover, according to Markus Ebner, additional staff requirements must be expected once the capacities of the logistics terminal are fully utilised. Gebrüder Weiss employs a total of 60 persons in Carinthia, of which are 6 apprentices.
