Geis Group reports record turnover for 2008

Geis Group records declining consignment volumes in 2009

In the financial year 2008 the internationally acting Geis Group, headquartered in Bad Neustadt (Germany), achieved the highest turnover in its 60-year-history. Net turnover of the logistics service provider increased 6.4 per cent compared to the previous year, to EUR 610.5 million. “Facing the impact of the cyclical slump in the second half of the year 2008 we are able to draw a positive balance with this result“, the Managing Partners Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis announce.

All three Geis divisions Road Services, Logistics Services and Air + Sea Services were in the black in 2008. The Road Services-divisions, dealing with national and international road transportations, achieved the highest percentage growth in turnover with 9 per cent, followed by the Logistics Services-division (contract logistics from storing and order-picking to complete outsourcing solutions) with an 8.3%-increase in turnover. Turnover of the Air + Sea Services-division decreased 1.9 per cent.

At the end of the year 2008 3,700 persons were employed at 84 Geis-locations throughout Europe. Last year they handled about 9.28 million transport and logistics orders, which equals an increase of 9.7 per cent.

Due to the continuous recession, in 2009 Geis Group is likely to fail its turnover of the previous year. “The cyclical trend of sinking consignment volumes has been existing since the end of 2008 and has become stronger in the first three months of this year“, Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis explaine.
