General Transport AG (Basel) becomes a member of the Geis group

Geis group takes over General Transport AG and creates the basis to expand its service portfolio and geographic reach

 

The Geis Group, founded in 1948, headquartered in Bad Neustadt, acquires 75 per cent of the shares of the General Transport AG. The Swiss logistics service provider with its headquarters in Basel and a branch in Zurich has around 75 employees and expects a turnover at around EUR 68.4 million for the 2011 business year.

”With their widely ranged services and their strong involvement in international transport networks, the General Transport AG is well positioned“, Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis, managing associates of the Geis group, explain the main reasons for the purchase of the shares. Also with regard to the geographical situation the acquired company fits well within the activities of the Geis group in Eastern and Central Europe.

The name General Transport and the brand Five Star Logistics® will be maintained as well as the staff. The aim of the cooperation between the Geis companies in Germany, Luxemburg, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia on the one hand, and General Transport AG on the other hand is to further expand the range of customers as well as services, particularly in the segments overland transport and contract logistics.

General Transport AG was established in 1947. With its brand name Five Star Logistics® the company offers a vast range of services, reaching from contract logistics, road and rail transport, air and sea freight, as well as transportations for big events and und humanitarian operations in crisis areas. Moreover the traditional enterprise is by its own account a market leader in the segments industrial facilities/project logistics.
