GLS Austria completes roll-up of latest generation-hand scanners

About EUR 500,000 total investment: New hand scanners with much more functions for use with GLS Austria parcel service company

The parcel service company GLS is about to use a new generation of hand-scanners in Austria with immediate effect. These simplify mobile data transmission from delivery vehicles, which have been introduced by GLS Austria five years ago. The new devices offer considerably more functions: The hand scanner can also be used as navigation system and to optimise routes. The software developed by GLS can respond faster thanks to the improved processing unit. The camera function has been further developed – relevant for taking pictures of notifications e.g. The device can electronically control amounts to be collected.

“The hand scanners are a basic part of our reliable and transparent parcel services“, says Klaus Schädle. “We have invested a total amount of about EUR 500,000 into the acquisition of the new devices. They are modern and help drivers in their everyday business and facilitate work. The bigger field for signatures allows recipients to better confirm the reception of parcels“, says Managing Director Europe South, GLS.

GLS Austria is a subsidiary of GLS, General Logistics Systems B.V. (headquarters in Amsterdam). By their own account GLS implements reliable, high-quality parcel services for 212,000 customers in Europe, and offers also express and logistics services. Through a network of their own companies and partners, the group covers 37 European countries and is connected throughout the world through contractual alliances. 37 central transhipment areas, 660 depots, 13,400 employees and 16,510 vehicles are daily on operation with GLS. In the 2011/12 financial year they moved 375 million parcels, generating turnover of EUR 1.81 billion.
