GLS expands operating range of its FlexDeliveryService

Expansion of the recipient service with GLS allows flexible delivery in parcel shipment between  Belgium, Germany and Austria

The GLS parcel service company is expanding the range of bordercrossing flexible delivery options: Connecting Belgium the FlexDeliveryService is now available between three countries. Recipients in Germany, Austria and Belgium now have the choice of multiple delivery options between all three countries and for all directions.

„Expanding the recipient service we support our customers with their e-commerce activities, which are particularly increasing within the Euro zone, on national and international scale“, says Rico Back, CEO, GLS group. According to experts‘ estimations the share of bordercrossing online sale will rise from 11 per cent in 2012 to 20 per cent in 2015. „Also for bordercrossing shipments we contact recipients and respect their requests for parcel delivery.“

The service is processed as follows: Webshop operators get the agreement of the recipients to pass their e-mail address to the parcel service company and activate the FlexDeliveryService. Together with the data of the parcel, the e-mail address is transmitted to GLS. When the shipment starts, GLS informs the recipients about date and expected time window for delivery. Information is issued in the official language of each country.

If the recipient will not be able to take over the parcel, it is possible to change the delivery even during the parcel is being shipped. Via a link in the e-mail – without registration – many options are available, e.g. select another day of delivery, change the address or have the parcel delivered to a GLS ParcelShop.
