GLS joins forces with Midex International

Parcel service GLS advances to Near East with Midex

The international parcel and express service GLS Logistics expands its operating range towards the Near East. Since the end of August 2009 the new partner Midex International (MIDEX) is charged with distribution of GLS consignments in 14 countries (United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq and Pakistan).

“Midex has a longstanding experience in import customs clearance. This is of particular importance in this region. “Thanks to the cooperation, we achieve regular delivery times for our Global Business-Parcel in the above-mentioned countries of only three to four days.” says Rico Back, CEO of GLS Logistics, in a press release.

Midex in turn profits from using the GLS network for deliveries in Europe. “Through our partnership with GLS, we are now connected to one of the strongest European parcel networks and this will give us an edge on competition”, says Dr Issam Khairallah, President and founder of Midex.

Midex is specialised in the rapid movement of documents and parcels – from collection to delivery. For a large part of the transportations, Midex uses the services of its affiliate Midex Airlines (based in Dubai). The airline was founded in January 2007 and has become a very efficient airfreight service provider in this region. Today, it operates a fleet of seven freighters (six A300B4-203Fs and one B747-228F).

Midex Airlines and Midex International belong to the Midex International Group. In 2008, the group that is managed from Dubai achieved a turnover of around EUR 4.2 billion with approximately 25,000 employees.
