Good results expected in RCA’s forwarding division

Restructuring of Rail Cargo Austria’s forwarding division yields fruit

In the fiscal period 2009 the forwarding division of the Rail Cargo Austria AG (RCA) will continue with its positive results from last year. This was announced by KR Friedrich Macher, Spokesperson of the Executive Management of ÖBB cargo transport, in a background discussion with journalists. “This is a remarkable performance“, the Manager pointed out, considering the initially expected decline in turnover of 20 to 25 per cent.

In the past months Rail Cargo Austria has improved and streamlined the structures of its forwarding division. The number of individual companies was reduced from 80 to 50 units. Activities will be divided to the units special forwarding (Chemfreight, Agrofreight, ProRail), intermodal (Intercontainer Austria), contract logistics (EC Logistik) and universal forwarding with the umbrella brands Express-Interfracht in Austria and Raabersped in Hungary. The Speditions Holding has been closed.

Logistics concepts with a strong focus on the railway as a transport mean form the core business of the optimised RCA forwarding division. The network consists of companies in 16 countries in Europe and Central Asia and 1,550 employees. Around 830 persons thereof are working in Austria. With EUR 1.3 billion the forwarding companies generated more than 50 per cent of the annual turnover of Rail Cargo Austria AG last year.
