TOLL2GO service for heavy trucks to start on 1 September

New toll system of ASFINAG and Toll Collect provides cross-system solution for Austria and Germany:

On 1 September 2011 the new cross-system and cross-country toll service TOLL2GO will be launched. TOLL2GO is a joint service of the Austrian and German toll operators ASFINAG and Toll Collect GmbH. It provides a cross-system and cross-country solution based on microwaves technology and satellite toll system.

TOLL2GO allows trucks of more than 12 tons maximum permissible weight to pay their toll in Germany and Austria by using the Toll Collect device (on-board unit, OBU). This service addresses all transport enterprises that are frequently operating vehicles on Austrian and German roads. The advantage of TOLL2GO is that users only need one device for both countries – Toll Collect OBU.

In a joint project ASFINAG and Toll Collect created the technical basis for the new TOLL2GO toll service. In an eight-weekly trial operation including about 1,400 trucks from nine European countries, one million toll transactions were carried out successfully in Austria. In spite of using one single on-board unit, the two toll operators till have their own contracts. Toll is still paid separately at each of the two toll operators.

Registration for the TOLL2GO toll service can be carried out from 1 September 2011 directly at ASFINAG’s website www.go-maut.at using the full electronic SelfCare tool. After successful registration and testing of the required conditions by ASFINAG the service is automatically activated through the calculation centre of Toll Collect. This on the precondition of a ready installed Toll Collect OBU in the vehicle. In case a vehicle is equipped with an Austrian GO-Box, this will be deactivated once the German Toll Collect OBU is active. The Austrian GO-Box has to be handed over to a GO distribution site.
